last friday i had my first lesson. this is the beautiful building in which i have most of my courses: brand new, HKBU Communications and Visual Arts building, also known as CVA (in typical HK style with love for abbreviations.)
i was paranoid about being late/not finding my classroom so i turned up about an hour early, even if this building is next door to the student residence halls. so in the extra time after i located my classroom i took some photos. below you can see the lovely outdoor courtyard of the CVA building. there is a nice gallery on the ground floor that looks out onto the infinity-pool fountain and that golden bamboo statue.
then it was time for Design for Hypermedia! and as soon as i saw the classroom I was into it. My school in Italy (Accademia di Belle Arti di Bologna) does not have any room that looks remotely like this:
so this course is about art that uses the internet as a platform. and just for this, i am happy that i came to HKBU.. this is exactly what i am interested in, and now i can actually study it with a professor. the room has 25 iMacs. and straight away the professor, prof. Bryan Chung, started showing us some of the most interesting website i have ever seen. and we used Dreamweaver in the first lesson already to start building our own websites. Everything is so advanced here, there really is a widespread desire to be as technologically up-to-date as possible, and I am going to take advantage of it ...
i was so inspired by the lesson that i started doodling afterwards with a very free hand and it was nice, because i hadn't drawn anything satisfactory since coming to HK. nothing like a half hour of drawing to clear my head.
